Optima Process for Coal

The Optima process was developed with the purpose of maximising yield to coking and metallurgical coal from coal fines. The system also produces a secondary thermal coal product.

The process is designed for low footprint, minimal water consumption and high feed throughputs.

Coal

The Optima process uses low density cut points to produce high quality, dewatered coal fines product. The process encompasses three key processes – feed preparation, low cut density separation, dewatering. Product moistures of 20-25% are achievable.

The separation envelope is -5+0.075mm. The system is used to recover coal from material such as filter cake, thickener underflows, slimes dams and run of mine coal fines.

An agglomeration process and economic evaluation option can be investigated for the production of a high quality ‘peas’ product.

The export market offer higher prices for the coal industry. Producing a high-quality product for blending purposes improves the overall export product yield and revenues.

Using the Optima process improves process plant economics reduced environmental liability due to reduced discard quantity. The reduced discard quantity also reduces operating costs such as tailings deposition, transportation, diesel etc.

The low plant footprint means reduced capital outlay.
